Most rock candy just tastes like colorful sugar. Boring! Why not invent your own flavor, using our wide selection of flavored oils, like apple, bubble gum, cinnamon, coffee, or raspberry? Or mix two different oils for something unique, like pumpkin & nutmeg or butter & pecan.

You could even try something crazy like spicy hot chili & lime dusted with chili powder, or make your own tasty cough drops with lavender & eucalyptus.

If you make something tasty or think of a great combination, post it in the comments below!

Makes 32 servings

  • 1 cup water
  • 3 3/4 cups sugar
  • 1 1/4 cups light corn syrup
  • 1 teaspoon appropriate food coloring
  • 2 teaspoons of flavoring oil (be creative!)
  • 1/3 cup powdered sugar

  1. Line a 15in x 10in pan with foil; butter the foil and set aside.
  2. In a large saucepan, boil water, sugar, corn syrup and food coloring (choose or mix colors appropriate to the flavor you are using).
  3. Cover and cook, stirring occasionally, about 3 minutes or until sugar crystals are dissolved.
  4. Uncover, cook over medium-high heat without stirring for about 25 minutes, or until your candy thermometer reaches hard-crack (300°F).
  5. Remove from heat, stir in flavoring oil.
  6. Pour into foil-lined pan.
  7. Once the candy has completely cooled (about 45 minutes), break it into pieces and dust with powdered sugar.
  8. Store in an airtight container.
